THE COCK, MEASURED FROM THE SMALL OF THE BACK, TO THE TIP OF THE TAIL, 81/2 TO 9 INCHES. THE HEN 8 TO 81/2
INCHES. A WELL BALANCED ROLLER'S TAIL WILL BE 1/2 TO 1 INCH, PAST THE TIP OF IT'S FLIGHTS. THIS IS WITH THE TIME
TESTED "APPLE BODY" WHICH HAS PROVEN TO BE THE BEST SHAPE OVER TIME. I HAVE WATCHED BIRMINGHAM ROLLER
PIGEONS, FLY AND PERFORM NOW FOR 40+ YEARS. WHEN MY BIRDS FLY I WATCH THEM, I ALWAYS HAVE, AND I ALWAYS WILL.
THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TRUE" ROLLER" ,AND A MODERN DAY "SPINNER" THE REAL BIRMINGHAM ROLLER,
ROLLS WITH EXTREME velocity, AND THIS MEANS A COMPLETE BLUR. AND FROM THE SIDE VIEW, WHICH IS RARE. THERE IS A
ROUND HOLE. THE REASON I SAY THIS. I HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN SOME SLOWER BIRDS ROLL WITH A  " C " YES A HOLE WITH
AN OPEN SPACE. AFTER HANDLING THESE BIRDS ON THE GROUND. I FOUND THAT THEY WERE EXTREMELY DEEP KEELED.
WHICH THREW THEM OFF BALANCE. AN EXAMPLE WOULD BE A COCK WITH A DEEP KEEL, INSTEAD OF 81/2 INCHES TO THE
TIP OF HIS TAIL, HE WOULD BE 7 INCHES. THIS IS SO  OFF BALANCE HE HAS TO SLOW HIS SPEED DOWN JUST TO KEEP HIS
BALANCE DURING THE ROLL, THAT THE HOLE JUST DOESN'T CLOSE UP. NOW FOR THE MODERN DAY SPINNER. THIS BIRD
TOO  BLURS OUT DURING A "SPIN". WHEN VIEWED STRAIT ABOVE, IT LOOKS LIKE TWO ICE CREAM CONES WITH THE TWO BIG
ENDS TOGETHER, FAT IN THE MIDDLE, TAPERING OUT TO TWO POINTS AT THE ENDS .AFTER VIEWING THESE BIRDS ON THE
GROUND. THE REASON IS OBVIOUS. WITH A MEDIUM KEEL, THE FLIGHTS, AND TAIL WERE TOO SHORT FOR THE BIRD TO KEEP
IT'S BALANCE IN THE ROLL. FOR EXAMPLE,THIS BIRD WITH A MEDIUM KEEL. AND FLIGHTS , WHICH ARE THE SAME LENGTH AS
THE TAIL, NOT GOOD. AND THIS BIRD IS 71/2 INCHES LONG INSTEAD OF 81/2 INCHES. YOU SEE IT'S NOT MUCH. BUT IT IS
ENOUGH TO THROUGH THE BIRD OFF BALANCE. , WHILE TRYING TO KEEP IT'S BALANCE DURING THE ROLL, IT'S WINGS NEVER
COME BACK TO THE UPPER MOST POSITION, THEY ONLY COME PART OF THE WAY BACK, WHICH ACTUALLY COVERS UP THE
SPACE WHERE THE HOLE WOULD BE. SHOULD THESE BIRDS BE JUDGED IN COMPETITION. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY YES. AND
THIS IS WHY. A LOT OF YOUNGER FANCIERS STARTED OUT WITH THESE BIRDS , THIS IS WHAT THEY SAW, AND THEY DIDN'T
KNOW THEIR WERE BETTER BIRDS OUT THEIR. I GUESS NOW IT IS JUST A PERSONAL CHOICE. I CHOSE TO BREED AND FLY
THE TRUE BIRMINGHAM ROLLER PIGEON, AND WATCH THIS BIRD "ROLL" WITH EXTREME VELOCITY, AND STYLE . AND
SOMETIMES WHEN I'M IN THAT LUCKY SPOT, TO SEE THE SMALL , ROUND, PERFECT HOLE, OF THE CHAMPION BIRMINGHAM
